Borough Market, Southwark Cathedral, Mamma Mia!!! And weird Modern Art.

First off I'd like to brag a little bit. Here it goes: I have been nothing but consistent with my blog and haven't missed one single day!!! That's a pretty big deal. Because I truly thought I would be super flaky and not do it! But since this is my substitute travel journal I've got to do it! Or else I'll be mad at myself later.

Today we had another delightful walk around the city, and started our Saturday morning with the popular Borough Market. This is a farmers market near London Bridge, and it is AMAZING. There was so much lovely fresh food; and this market is home of "The World's Greatest Grilled Cheese Sandwich" (well, according to Papa Frank, that is). I of course had to see what all the hullabaloo was about. And lets just say...I want to marry that sandwich. It was that good. We purchased some fresh cherries and raspberries too, hoping to counteract the greasy sandwich we just consumed with some fruit. It didn't work.

Our next stop was literally 20 feet away from the market, and that was Southwark Cathedral. This has been one of my favorite cathedrals that we have been in (I say that, but I actually love them all, it's just too hard to choose a favorite). But I ventured in while everyone else was sitting outside on the grass. I paid for a votive candle, lit it, and said a prayer. Then just sat in the cathedral for a little while. It was absolutely breathtaking. I didn't want to leave but Papa Frank made me... ugh. It was just such a nice moment to gather my thoughts and have some alone time. That has been one of my favorite moments. Oh! I forgot to mention that this cathedral was the same one Shakespeare attended. No big deal. Probably just sat in the same pew as he did.

Our next stop was the Tate Modern Art Gallery. I have a really hard time with modern art, I've just never been able to appreciate it as much as I should. For instance: there was a piece in one of the exhibits that looked like an extraordinarily large piece of beef jerky hanging from the ceiling. It was called something like "Delicate Child"..... uhhh....?? "Delicate Child"??!!? I'm sorry good sir but you just picked up some left over food from your pantry and hung it from the ceiling! You may not call that art. And especially call it "Delicate Child"! That's just ridiculous. The one that really pushed me over the edge was a piece called "Ballpoint Pen and Notebook". Wanna guess what it was? A ballpoint pen and a notebook. Sitting there. On a stand. Hmm... pretty sure that's just left over office supplies folks. Don't be duped! Next time my room is dirty or I make a mess and someone asks me to clean it up, I'm going to say it's art and they are killing my artistic buzz. Because that's what the people in Tate Modern do. Therefore, I can too.

Next I led a group of girls back to the Underground so we could get home and do some homework before we tried to get tickets to another show... at least I thought I led them to the Underground....

St. Paul's from across the Thames.

Apparently London has some random tunnels near St. Paul's Cathedral and Blackfriar's Station that aren't actually connected to the Tube. So we just got lost underground for a moment, because of me. I was thinking a scene from the movie "The Descent" was going to occur or something. (Don't watch that movie. It's freaky.)

We got home. Did some homework. Ate some dinner. And got...

Christina, Kaitlyn, Janie, and I in front of the theater!!!

MAMMA MIA TICKETS!!! I love Broadway. Especially London Broadway. We just go there an hour before the show, ask for their cheapest tickets, show them our student discount card, and BOOM! Instant entertainment! Man I'm so lucky! We sang along, cheered, stood up and danced all together, everyone in the audience! It was a blast!!! After the show we thought we should probably go to the Stage Door at the back of the theater and have some of the guys in the show take pictures with our friend Kim Austin since it was her birthday! And we love embarrassing each other. Here's how the conversation went down.

"Hey can we take a picture with you?" -Emilee
"Uh... (confused look).... I'm not in the show..." - Random guy that walked out of the Stage Door
"Oh." -Emilee
A moment passes...
"Well can we still have a picture with you? You're hot... (the last part muttered under her breath but perhaps still not quiet enough)" -Abbie

St. Paul's!!!

How cute is this??

I just busted up laughing and had to walk away. It was such an awkward moment! I could watch it any longer!!! Let's just  say that was a great ending to an even better day :)

Cheers!
